Obituary of Venton Cecil Miller
Venton Cecil Miller was born to Adella Ford and shortly afterwards Adella married Robert L. Miller. Along with his parents, he and his eight siblings lived in a farming community in Almadane, LA.
As a young man, he moved to DeRidder, LA for work. There he met and married Mary Virginia Harris. To this union, six children were born. He became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J. W. Gibbs. He worked diligently as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Director of the Sunday School, and a choir member. He faithfully served on many committees, as well as involved his children in many church related activities. He loved the Lord and raised his children accordingly by having family prayer and Bible Study in the home.
He and Mary were married until her death in 1977. Years later, he married Dian Smith and added two stepdaughters to the family. He was preceded in death by Adella and Robert Miller (parents); Mary Miller (wife); Major Vernon Miller (son); Collis Miller, Ezell Miller, Donell Miller, Melvin Miller (brothers); and Ocie Lee Freeman (sister), Pearl Miller and Denise Williams (half-sisters).
He leaves to cherish his memory; Dian Miller (wife); Wayne Miller (son); Vera Camel, Josie Thrash, Debora Ajala, Sharon Miller, Patricia Smith-McClinton, Sallie Ford (Elliot),(daughters); Thomas Miller (Freda), Lonnie Miller (Eloise), Vonny Miller (Mary): Doris Cornelius and Mary McDonald (half-sisters); Eighteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the DeRidder Funeral Home. The family will hold a private graveside service. Services are under the direction of the DeRidder Funeral Home.
