Obituary of Cora Lynn Palmer

The Family of Cora Lynn Anding Palmer is saddened to announce her peaceful passing at home with her children present on a beautiful Fall afternoon just five days prior to her 93rd Birthday. She will be laid to rest by beloved husband Bob Palmer at Dry Creek Cemetery, Dry Creek, LA. adjacent to the old Palmer farm. Graveside services will be held at the cemetery on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 1:00 P.M., under the direction of the DeRidder Funeral Home. Miss Lynn, a true Southern Lady, was born to Martin Watkins Anding and Essie Eula Williams Anding on the Watkins Ranch in Wilderville, TX just east of Rosebud, the second of three children. Her siblings, Dorothy and Alex, died of complications from measles—-Pneumonia prior to advent of penicillin in their early childhood. As a result she was a strong advocate for inoculations for all children. She joined the Methodist Church at age Six on her own accord! She was popular in school and was a drum majorette at Marlin High School. She attended Georgetown University, Georgetown, TX. It was there she met a young Naval Ensign, Jack E. Byers. They subsequently married and of that union two daughters were born. After the War they settled in Dallas who worked for the Defense industry...Chance Vought and was a contract negotiator. She met Bob Palmer by chance, and was smitten. Bob was known for his expertise in directional oil drilling. After their union they moved to Louisiana for him to pursue his career eventually settling in Lafayette and had two children. Miss Lynn is survived by children: Suzan Anding Byers Loesch, Patricia Lynn Byers Brannon both of Sienna Plantation (Houston area); Robert Martin Palmer, wife Kim of Katy, TX; Nancy Caroline Palmer McMillan and husband Wikoff of Lafayette, LA. Also, her pride and joy, Grandchildren: Bobby Palmer, wife, Leslie of Lakeway, TX.; Will McMillan of New Jersey who just finished grad school; and, Miranda Palmer of Katy an EMT student. The unmistakable highlight of the most recent years was the birth of her first Great-Grandchild, a beautiful rosy-cheeked baby girl, with blue eyes and cascades of blonde curls, Caroline, who is a very busy toddler at 2 1/2 years old. The family is grateful for all of Miss Lynn’s caregivers...doctors, nurses, and around-the-clock aides who valiantly gave her every chance to make her 93rd birthday. Dearest Mother, Rest In Peace....You “Have Fought The Good Fight.”..........You will forever be in our hearts.......
