Obituary of Violet Pruitt Hollingsworth
Violet Pruitt Hollingsworth, 91, of DeRidder died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, October 14 following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was born December 10,1922 in Fal, LA to Ed and Mattie Pruitt. She married William Earl Hollingsworth of Singer on July 22, 1939. The couple lived in Lake Charles and Sulphur until WWII when her husband was inducted into service and called to fight in several European campaigns. When he returned at the end of the war, they moved to Singer and lived there for 50 years. Violet was the U. S. Postmaster in Singer for 20 years. during that time, she established a lending library and community service board for her patrons and helped the elderly with their financial matters and personal correspondence. The couple sold their farm and moved to DeRidder after they retired and bought a camp on Toledo Bend. Everywhere she went, people loved Violet for her warm sense of humor, her kindness and loving acceptance of all.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was preceded in death by her parents and brothers L.C., Edgar, Harry, and Merlin. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, daughter Sharon Harris and husband John of DeRidder, and daughter Terri Landry and husband Gerald of Abbeville. She has three grandchildren: Christian Harris with wife Melissa of Robeline, LA , Joshua Harris with wife Meagan of Belton, TX, and Skye Truax with husband Matt of New Orleans, LA. She also has two great grandchildren, William and Jacob Harris, and one remaining brother, Paul Pruitt.
A celebration of her life will be held at Hixon's Funeral home in DeRidder. Family and friends can visit from 5 to 9 pm on Thursday, October 16, and attend the memorial service on Friday, October 17, at 10 am. Interment will be at Newlin Cemetery in Singer.
