Obituary of Adam R Garrick

Adam R. Garrick Sr. was born to the late Adam R. Garrick Sr. and Grace Garrick on February, 9th, 1954 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He departed this life on Wednesday October 8th, 2014 at 1:36pm in his home in DeRidder, Louisiana surrounded by his family. Adam grew up in Church Point, Louisiana, and he was a devoted Catholic. In 1972 he graduated from CPHS. Adam was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Cindy Garrick on July 26th 1975. They were married for 39 ½ years. Adam joined the U.S. Army in 1976. He enjoyed a 21 year career, during which he received two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, two overseas Service Medals, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and a medal with three Bronze Stars for Southwest Asia Service. He retired in Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1997. Adam did believe retirement meant staying home. He went back to work at the Bayne-Jones Pharmacy for 10 years, and then to AECOM now called Northrup Grumman until he passed away. Adam was also very proud of being a Knight of Columbus. Adam Garrick was a funny and loving man. He touched everyone he knew in some way. A helping hand, sound advice, or maybe just a laugh. He will be missed by his family, church, and community here in DeRidder. Adam R. Garrick Jr. is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 ½ years, Cindy L. Garrick of DeRidder, LA; loving daughter Monshanda Garrick of Houston, TX; his special daughters, Rene Hall of Lake Charles, LA and Brandy Jordan- Newton of DeRidder, LA; his Goddaughters, Darnetta Edwards of Carencro Louisiana, Zanier Cluse, of Lake Charles, LA, and Courtney Decquir of Crowley, LA; and Johntashia Garrick of Church Point, LA., his grandchildren, Zion Adam Garrick, Canaan Garrick Hopkins of Houston, TX, and Melanie and Dasha Piper of Lake Charles, LA. Adam is also survived by his Godsons, Rodney, Richard and Rachard Shillow of DeRidder, LA., Lawerence Garrick of Church Point, LA, Dennis Massey Jr. of New Llano, LA, and Devontay Garrick of Church Point, LA. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Evelyn (Gurvis) Chavis of Church Point, LA., his brothers, Hubert (Carliss) Garrick of Church Point, Danny (Kim) Garrick of Anniston, AL, Darrell (Leola) Garrick of Church Point, LA, Terrance (Delores) Garrick of Church Point, LA, and John Garrick of Church Point, LA. Three special brothers, Michael (Tomika) Litters and Edgar Holmes all of Deridder, LA and Gary (Cookie) Spikes of Leesville, LA. He is also survived by his uncles, Albert Garrick and Lerlin (Mary Lee) Garrick both of Lake Charles, LA and Clarence ( Orelia) Leger of Church Point, LA. Also his aunts, Anna (Joe) Dentley of Lake Charles, LA, Georganna Thomas of Ville Platte, LA and Wilda Citizen of Church Point, LA. As well as, two uncle-in- laws, Leo Augustine of Crowley, LA and Tommy Edwards of Houston, TX. He is also survived by necies , nephews, cousins family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adam R. and Grace Garrick, Sr., his grandparents and his in laws. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Thompson Home Health, Hospice of Leesville, Bayne-Jones Medical Staff, and Dr. Christopher Stewart. A memorial service will be Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in DeRidder, La. Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder was entrusted with the memorial service.
