Gloria Shafer was born on July 22, 1938 in Natchitoches, La.  She was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved God with all of her heart, soul, mind and spirit, and continuously reminded us all to "Thank the Good Lord" at all times. Her most treasured joy was her family whom she considered to be her greatest achievement. She lived a life that relentlessly sought to serve others. She loved life, finding joy especially in the small moments. She worked hard, and she smiled often. She loved raising her children, sewing, drinking Community coffee, tending to her flower gardens, and making her special biscuits for all who entered her home, always ensuring that no one left hungry. She had a spirit that laughed often, and fought to make the best of the hardest times. She embraced her church family and faithfully attended Diamond Baptist Church, singing in the choir and serving as a member of Eastern Star. She also worked at the Rosepine High School Cafeteria for many years where she loved interacting with the students and her coworkers.

Gloria spent her last days with her wonderful family, her two sons, George Robert Shafer, III Esq. of Scott La, and William G. Shafer of DeRidder, La. and her three daughters, Elizabeth Colletti and Paula Shafer both of Deridder, La, and Kathy Shafer-Swift of Magnolia TX, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews.

She passed from this life on December 12, 2018 to be with the Lord. She will be waiting with Him, and those who preceded her in death, her husband, George Robert Shafer Jr, and daughters Sharon Shafer-Miller and Ramona Shafer-Davis, until the rest of her family will join her in heaven to be with God forevermore.

Throughout her illness, she loved her doctors—Dr. Pandya, Dr. Granger, Dr. Farquhar—and the many physicians, nurses and caregivers at Beauregard Memorial Hospital and MD Anderson in Houston.  She was on Hospice and had a wonderful relationship with her caregiver Dana and nurse Diane. She was given the best of care and was always grateful. Mama was a rock in our family, and always told us "I love you with all my heart," and we love her with all of our hearts.
