Obituary of Doris Tullos Sims

Huntsville, AL -- Doris Lee Sims, 87, a long-time resident of DeRidder, died on Sunday, December 28, 2014 after battling for several years with Alzheimer's disease. Born on May 5, 1927 in Chase, LA. Doris moved to DeRidder to work at the Beauregard Parish Public Library following her education in Library Science at Northeast Louisiana University. She married Jack Sims of DeRidder on April 22, 1950, and was his devoted wife for over 50 years. Doris joined Jack as an active member at First Baptist Church in DeRidder where she utilized her skills as the church librarian until 1983. Through the years she was also active in Sunday School, WMU, VBS, choirs, prayer and benevolence ministries at the church. Doris is survived by her son, David Sims and wife Marthe' of Huntsville, AL and her daughter Allison Sims of Bayou Chicot, LA. She has one grandson, Micah Sims and wife Lauren of Mount Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by a sister, Eula Smith of Metarie, LA, as well as brothers-in-law Jimmie Sims of Houston, TX and Paul Cooley of Singer, LA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sims, parents Richmond and Gertrude Tullos, and eight siblings: Rex Tullos, Coy Tullos, Banks Tullos, J. E. Tullos, J. C. Tullos, Ruth Brewer, Mary Frances Cooley and Tommie Jean Turnier. Funeral services will be held at Hixon Funeral Home of DeRidder on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM followed by a brief graveside service at the Beauregard Cemetery, Lindsey Burns officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Barfield, David Brown, George Fontenot, Eddie O'Neal, Hollis Ray O'Neal and Joe Roy. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Cooley, Billy Kilman, Hollis O'Neal, Jimmy Rykard, Henry Carter and Jimmie Sims. Hixon Funeral Home of DeRidder has been entrusted with arrangements.
