Obituary of Barrett Sr.

Rolla James "Jimmy" Barrett, Sr 76, passed away peacefully at his home, on July 21, 2016. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Dry Creek, Louisiana where he was a member of Dry Creek Bible Church and served as an Elder. He began his career in education as a Teacher and girls' basketball coach. He later accepted the position of Assistant Principle and then Principle of East Beauregard School, which served grades K-12. After retiring he joined the Beauregard Sheriff's Department from which he retired from as well. Jimmy also served as a School Board Member for Beauregard Parish School Board. He enjoyed quail hunting and fishing and spending time with his cherished family. Jimmy was a "family man" in the true sense of the words. He absolutely loved and cherished his wife whom he started dating when she was in the 9th grade. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother; John Edward Barrett, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Linda Simmons Barrett, a son; James Barrett and wife Tonia, and a daughter; Mary Barrett all of Dry Creek, LA., two grandchildren; Alyssa Buzzard and husband Andy of Kinder, LA and Austin Barrett of Dry Creek, LA., three brothers; Mike Barrett of Houston, TX., Terry Barrett and wife Linda of Moss Bluff, LA and Don Barrett and wife Angela of Dry Creek, LA., one sister; Martha Carroll and husband Ben of Pasadena, TX. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Saturday, July 23rd 2016 at Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Visitation will resume the following Morning at 11:00 AM until the Time of Service at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 24th 2016 at Hixson Funeral Home DeRidder, Louisiana. Burial will take place at Dry Creek Cemetery which is located in Dry Creek Louisiana. Arrangements under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA.
