Obituary of Velma Self
Velma L. Self, 66, died at 5:42 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. She was a homemaker and had lived in DeRidder for 22 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elmer Chaney of Sugartown, and her sister, Thelma McDonald of Tennessee. Survivors include her husband, Douglas Self; one son, Douglas E. Self of Rosepine; one daughter, Kimberly Ransome of New Llano; five brothers, L.C. Chaney of Anacoco, Almer Chaney of Rosepine, Jimmy Chaney of Evans, Elbert Chaney of Leesville and Clifford Chaney of Rosepine, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Sarah Jones of Hornbeck, Emma Ransome of Slagle, Douglas Christopher Self of Tennessee, Heather Cammack of New Llano and Katelin Ransome of Slage; two great grandchildren, Caleb Cammack of New Llano and Seth Senn of Hornbeck, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. Funeral services will be held at the Canaan Baptist Church, 19190 Highway 8, Leesville, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 beginning with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
