Obituary of Elbridge M. Brown

On Thursday, September 1,2011, Elbridge M. (Sonny) Brown slipped his earthly bonds and left this world to join in a glorious homecoming celebration with family and friends who had left before him to meet at the feet of Jesus, Services will be held at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of DeRidder, La. on Saturday September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.rn. until service time on Saturday. He was born in Frierson, La. September 16, 1917. Our Dad loved and served his Lord. He accepted Christ as a child and joined First Baptist Church of Frierson, La. where he spent most of his childhood, and was baptized in a mill pond in that area. He later served as deacon in First Baptist Church of Rodessa, La., First Baptist Church of Bernice, La., and First Baptist Church of DeRidder, La. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Bernice, La. and DeRidder, La. He was first Initiated into the Lodge as a brother in February 1954, Passed in March 1954 and Raised in May 1954. Dad was retired from H.L. Hunt Oil Co. having worked at Plant's in Lisbon, La., Ragley, La., and Kinder, La. Dad was preceded in death by his wife of fifty two years, Gwyndolyn Fuller Brown, his parents Marion M. (Peck) Brown and Isadora Upp Brown of Frierson, LA., three brothers: Telemachus Marion Brown, Wentworth Rosecran Brown, and Roy Lee Brown, and three sisters: Lila May Malone, Georgia Elizabeth Randall and Lucille Clydia Revis. Dad is survived by two sisters: Bernice Douthitt of Centerville, Texas and Betty Jane Yacavoni of Middleburg, Florida; one daughter: Julia Carroll and her family of Houston, Texas, two son's: Roy A. Brown and his family of Lafayette, La., Michael Brown and wife Ruby of DeRidder, La, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Dad is also a descendent, (great grandson), of Capt. Telamachus Cambridge Brown, Company E, 9th MISS CAV, CSA, and his first wife, Adaline Westmoreland Brown of Okolona, Mississippi. ' Pallbearers will be fellow Masons and Deacons of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Agape Clinic.
