Obituary of Macon Henry
DERIDDER, LA. Macon Leon Henry, 60, died Monday, December 5, 2011.
He was born in Jackson, Mississippi February 6, 1951 to the late Macon and Evelyn Sessions Henry. He was married to Sylvia Althia Placker in Odessa, Texas on September 26, 1970. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1969 and attended Odessa Junior College. He served in the National Guard from 1970-1976.
He worked for Texaco for many years as a trucker, dispatcher and independent owner-driver. He was an ordained minister and worked as an Associate Minister.
Leon was retired and, though he lived in Texas for many years, he most recently lived in DeRidder, LA and was a dedicated member and minister at Life Tabernacle Church there. To him, family was very important. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren sharing cookouts and fishing trips. He loved his siblings and cousins and their families and enjoyed numerous family trips and reunions with them. Though he had been in ill health due to heart problems in recent years, he always had a positive attitude and kept busy. He was an avid chess player. He had a wonderful sense of humor and touched many lives over the years and will be missed very much.
SURVIVORS: His wife, Sylvia of DeRidder; his son, Johnny Leon; his daughter, Angel Hennigan and son-in-law Nathan; daughter, Tiffanie Kring and son-in-law Travis of DeRidder; sisters, Gwen Boyd and husband Kirby of Fort Worth TX, Mavis Joanette Zant and husband Danny Mack of Odessa, TX and Jan Holbrook and husband Vaughn of Crosby, TX; grandchildren, Kendra, Denise, Jeffry, Josh, Travis and M-Kenna Kring, Zachary and Cory Hennigan; and two great-grandchildren, Simon and Jasmine; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Life Tabernacle Church in Rosepine, La. under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
