Obituary of Eudora Mae Cooley
Eudora Mae Cooley, born on July 25, 1926 went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Eudora, also known to many as "Dora Mae", "Door Mae" and "Doe" was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Cooley of Singer; her parents, James LeRoy and Alice Bowman of Singer; her brothers Jimmy Bowman of Baton Rouge and John Bowman of Shreveport; and her sisters, Etha Lee McCulley of Houston, Texas, Sydney Jarvis Davis of Nacogdoches, Texas, Alice Louise Perdue of Ennis, Texas. Eudora is survived by her children; Janice C. Airey and husband Scott M. Airey of Montgomery, Texas, Jean Rich and husband Fred Rich of Rosharon, Texas, and Jerry Wayne Cooley and wife Marjorie of Singer, Louisiana. Eudora has five loving grandchildren, Sundae Rich, Kimberly Whittle, Jama Machart, Brandon Cooley and Trevor Cooley; and four great grandchildren, Nicholas Rich, Maddison Machart, Cassian Cooley and Gabriel Cooley.
After graduating from Greenwood High School in Shreveport area, her family moved to Singer where she met and married Jerry Cooley in 1944. Following brief residences in San Antonio, Texas, DeQuincy and Lake Charles, they settled on their farm in Singer, Louisiana. During her working years outside of the farm, Eudora worked at the Air Base in DeRidder as well as the cafeteria at Singer High School, the Social Security Administration office in DeRidder and the Beauregard Parish Agriculture office. She was very active in the Singer Baptist Church for many years and genuinely enjoyed and cherished her time with her church family. Eudora enjoyed being outside and shared her beautiful day lillies and Indian blanket with many friends and family. In 2003 she relocated to Hearthstone Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas where she continued to make a difference in many lives. She was truly a caregiver to many of her resident friends and served on the Food and Hospitality Committees during her residence. In 2007 she received the special recognition as being the "Resident of the Year" which she so truly deserved. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heathstone at Rivershire for their care and friendship over the past 8 years and the staff of Park Manor at Conroe for their care during her final days.
Visitation will be at Hixon's Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana from 5pm-9pm on Friday, December 16. Funeral service will be at Singer Baptist Church, Singer, Louisiana at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 17 with graveside service to follow at Newlin Cemetery, Singer, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions to the memory of Eudora be made to the Singer Baptist Church in Singer, Louisiana which she loved and cherished or such other charities of your choice.
