Obituary of Harry Shelton Cates
Harry Shelton Cates, Sr. of Longville, LA passed away in his home Sun. Mar.18, 2012.
Cates was preceded in death by his brother Harold Wofford.
He is survived his wife Elsie Cates, his daughter Brenda Shell, and her husband Oscar Shell of Rosepine, LA, three sons Harry Cates, Jr., and his wife Alisha Cates of Longville, LA, Michael Cates of Longville, LA, and James Jackson of Deridder, LA. Two sisters Billie Sue Vincent of TX, and Carol Bushnell of FL. Two brothers Freddie Wofford, and Tommy Wofford of Sulphur, LA. And a sister-in-law Pat Wofford, as well as 7 grand children, and 3 great-grand children.
He was a life-long member of the Four Winds Confederate Cherokee Tribe of Deridder, LA.
Services will we held as follows: Visitation Tues, Mar. 20, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. family only, 4:00-9:00 p.m. public welcome at Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder, Funeral Wed. Mar. 21 at 2:00 p.m . at Hixson Chapel. Rev. Larry Talent, pastor of Longville Pentecostal Church, will be officiating.
Cates was a US Army Vietnam War Veteran. Full military honors will be held at the graveside following the funeral service at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer, LA.
