Obituary of Florence Eve Hurley
Florence Eve Hurley, age 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning at St. Luke's Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, August 4th, 2012.
Florence was born on November 4th, 1923 in Hicks, LA.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Belle Self, her husband, Richard James Hurley, three brothers, Artie Ray Self, Charlie Self, Noah Self, 4 sisters, Ola Denby, Alma Self, Lela Farris and Maudie Whittington.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hurley Miller Piper (Frank), Mobile Al., her son Michael Richard Hurley (Laurie), San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren, Chris Miller (Gwen), Karen Miller Lipscomb (Chris), Joshua Hurley, Katie Hurley, Mark McFall, her baby sister, Claudine Miller (James), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Florence was a hard- working independent woman, who was ahead of her time. In her younger years, she joined the war effort and worked in the factories that helped produce the WWII planes. She also lived in San Antonio, where she met her future husband. They were married on November 4th, 1950, in Georgia. After her husband retired from the Air Force, they eventually settled in DeRidder in 1969 to be close to her family which was so important to her.
Anyone who knew Florence was aware of her passion for her yard and garden, and all her flowers. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved her church, friends, family and just generally "getting the job done". Her strong, but quiet faith in the Lord carried her through many difficult times and made her the strong-hearted person that she was. She will be missed by all that knew her.
The family will receive visitors Saturday, August 11th, 9:00 to 2:00 at Hixson's Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. followed by a graveside service at Beauregard Cemetery.
