George L. Glass and Bro. Jimmy Glass officiating under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home, DeRidder, LA. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of New Cypress Cemetery, Rosepine, LA. The family would like to embrace guests for visitation Friday, October 19, 2012, from the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hixson's. She was born August 20, 1915, in Vernon Parish, LA, to the late Wesley Arthur and Minnie Smith Midkiff. Eunice Marjorie Lewis, beloved wife, loving Mother and magnificent grandmother departed this present world, to join her husband and other family in Heaven, on October 16, 2012, in DeRidder, LA. She was a Queen Spelling Bee, very intelligent young lady that was promoted at mid-term to a higher grade level. At age 16 following her mother's passing, Eunice stepped up in caring for her younger siblings until she married. Eunice was a model housewife, perfectionist seamstress, awesome "from scratch" chef, a booklover - reader, a farmer's wife who loved life, but if you could ask her today, she would say "I strived to be a Christian first." Her 97 years one month and 26 days were kept busy devoting her time to God, reading her Bible, attending Church, spending time with her friends and having all her children around her dinner table, filled with home cooked dishes, especially on holidays. Mrs. Lewis is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 67 years; Reese Peerliss Lewis, three brothers: Bryon, Newlyn and Wesley Midkiff and one sister; Katie Chadline Midkiff Lewis. Left to cherish beautiful memories of Mrs. Lewis will be one son; Jimmie Lewis, wife Thelma of DeRidder, two daughters: Faye Welborn, husband Gary of Atlanta, GA, and Judy Lewey, husband Kenneth of Cincinnati, OH, sister; Lorena Stevenson, two brothers: Beamon Midkiff and Hoye Midkiff; seven grandchildren, two step grandsons, nine great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild along with numerous extended family members and many wonderful friends. Honoring Mrs. Lewis will be Terry Lewey, Steve Lewey, Alan Farquhar, Steven Farquhar, Doug D'Hollosy and Phillip Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Levon Lewis and Jeff Jeffery. Grandma or Mama (depending on which grandchild is speaking) filled our years with memories that now we can only share with others. We all will miss her, but she will live on in our hearts forever. How very special she was! You may share your prayers and condolences with the family by visiting our online register at www.hixsonfuneral.com.
