Obituary of Elgin LeRoy Johnson

Elgin Leroy Johnson Celebration of Life services for Mr. Elgin Leroy Johnson, 71, of DeRidder, will be held Saturday, March 9th 2013 at 3 pm. Officiating will be Eugene Williams and Frank Hensley, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA. Interment will follow Sunday, March 10th, 2013 at 2 pm on the grounds of Palmetto Cemetery in Walker, La. The family would like to welcome guests for visitation on Friday, March 8th 2013 at 10 am until 9 pm. Visitation will continue the following morning, Saturday, March 9th at 9 am. until the time of service at 3 pm. Mr. Johnson was born on January 26, 1942 in Poplarville, Mississippi to Walter Johnson and Olevia (Woods) Johnson. He was called home on Wednesday, March 6th 2013 at his residence in DeRidder, LA. Leroy moved to DeRidder, LA in 1960, and settled down here to become a lifetime logger. He valued life and loved to be outdoors, mostly hunting and fishing. He was a simple, soft-spoken man who treasured all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren profoundly. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by; his parents; his first wife JoAnn Denise Johnson; his brothers D.V. Johnson, Shorty Johnson, Otis Ray Johnson, and Prentiss Woods; his grandson Andrew Johnson and Father and Mother-in –Law Robert and Ruby Whittington. Left to cherish his beautiful memories are; his wife, Bonnie Johnson of DeRidder, LA; his sons Tommy Johnson an wife Christine of DeRidder, LA, Keith Johnson and wife Barbara of Pitkin, LA, Dwayne Johnson and wife Debbie of Pollock, LA; his brothers W.G. Johnson and wife Sally of Poplarville, MS, Leo Johnson of DeRidder, LA, and Ernie Johnson and wife Linda of Poplarville, MS; his sister Vernice Pearl and husband Carl Howard of San Antonio, TX; his step sons Andy Matthis of DeRidder, La, Danny Matthis and wife Jessica of Merryville, LA, Rickey Matthis and wife Marie of Slidell, LA; and Step daughters Vickie Matthis of DeRidder, LA, and Debbie Matthis of DeRidder, LA. He left a host of grandchildren; Thomas Johnson and wife Ashley, Tiffany Johnson, Tera Johnson, Aime Jeane and husband Brandon, Michael Johnson, Brady Johnson and wife Alexis, JoAnn Johnson, Ariel Duggar and husband Allen, Danny "Tater" Matthis, James Johnson, Aden Matthis, Kacey Matthis, Brandon Matthis, Randal Matthis, Courtney Matthis, Katlin Matthis, Derrik Wagnon and wife Jana, Ashley Grantham, and Justin Grantham. Also to miss him are his great-grandchildren; Carmendee Johnson, Braylen Johnson, JoLee Johnson, Brooklyn Jeane, Raygen Jeane, Brayden Johnson, Molly Johnson, Bristol Duggar, Paisley Wagnon, and Levi Wagnon.
